LAZINESS
DEAR PATIENT,
HOW MANY TIMES A DAY DO YOU PUT
ON AN UPSET FACE OR A BAD ATTITUDE? HOW MANY TIMES A DAY DO YOU NOT
FEEL LIKE DOING WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO? AHA, MY FRIEND, I AM BEGINNING
TO SEE WHAT YOUR PROBLEM IS: THE ROOT OF YOUR SADNESS AND UNWILLINGNESS
IS CALLED LAZINESS.
Answer these questions sincerely :
1.– I
HAVE TO GO TO SCHOOL AND I NORMALLY REACT LIKE THIS
I go happily because I know that it
is something good for me.
It wears me out, it’s a pain, it’s boring,… no
one can stand it.
I don’t love it, but I try to live each
day with a good attitude.
2. I AM NORMALLY LIKE:
I talk a lot about what I want to do, but I never do anything.
I have so much to do that I don’t
have time to think about what I am going to do next.
I live peacefully doing what I have to do in each moment.
3. IF I AM COLD AND THE DOOR IS OPENED, BUT I AM LAYING ON THE COUCH
WATCHING T.V.:
I get up quickly and shut the door.
I put up with being cold and wait until someone comes in
or out so that I can ask them to close the door.
I cover up with the couch cushions and finally, because I am still
cold, I get up and close the door.

4. IF THE ALARM CLOCK RINGS AND IT IS TIME FOR ME TO WAKE UP:
I reflect for a half an hour about whether or not it was really
my alarm clock or if I dreamed it.
I jump out of the bed.
I turn off the alarm clock and I begin to “work” by
thinking while I am still in the bed: I am going to get up, I am going to take
a shower, I am going to have breakfast, then I am going to….
5.- BEFORE ANY ACTIVITY RELATED TO GOD LIKE PRAYER, GOING TO MASS, DOING
A WORK OF CHARITY, ETC. - HOW DO I REACT?
It seems great but it’s ashame that I’m
always too tired and I can’t go.
God
is good. He knows that even though I’m lying on the couch, I’m
still praying.
I do everything I can to have God in the
first place, even if that means that I have to make an effort.
CHECK YOUR RESULTS!
I give you a round of applause for not being lazy. Isn’t it worth living to serve others? Do you know boys and girls that everything bores them? I’m sure you do. They get bored because a lot of them are lazy: at waking up, at studying, at washing up, at serving others... Do you want to do a work of charity? Help them with your good example to shake off their laziness and start to enjoy life. It’s so sad being lazy, isn’t it? Someone said that a lazy person is like an unwound watch. Do you agree?
Laziness in little things ends up being a big vice of laziness. I hope that I arrived on time in order to cure you. Laziness creates a vicious circle: If you are lazy you don’t do anything, and if you don’t do anything you become lazier. Break this circle once and for all and make an effort, even though you don’t feel like it. Say whenever there is something that is hard for you: “I do it for you, Lord! I do it for you, Mary! I’m going to do it right now!” That way your laziness will disappear. Don’t run away from you work. If you only want to be comfortable, how do you plan on entering into the Kingdom of Heaven, if Jesus said that those that make the effort will enter? I hope that you decide to change so that Jesus doesn’t have to say to you “You wicked, lazy servant!” (Mt 25:26)
Kid, you’re a slave to laziness. Your lazy, its a plain as that. You want to rest before you get tired. You don’t do the things that you don’t want to do and that is why you are sometimes sad and don’t feel like doing anything. I am going to prescribe you some courage and enthusiasm shots so that you make the effort to do what God wants you to do. It is very important that you pray to the Virgin Mary, and that you kneel before Jesus in the Tabernacle. God has given you so many talents and qualities to become a great person and a great saint. Do you want to throw all of those talents in the garbage? If you’re lazy you are not giving God the fruits that He wants from you and you become poor. What’s more, with your laziness you hurt others. Ask God for the grace to expel from you laziness, which is one of the seven capital sins. It is easy for God to cure you from laziness, He only needs you to want to change.©HM ZOOM+ 54 April/May 2008
