On a Marian Pilgrimage in Madrid

This time, during our monthly get-togethers with little girls here in Madrid, we went ¨on a trip¨ (without stepping foot outside the parish) to visit Nuestra Señora del Rocio - "Our Lady of the Dew".  Long live Our Lady!  This get-together was definitely going to be exciting…

40 girls showed up at the parish around noon.  First of all, they got into teams and learnt a Flamenco dance, sevillanas-style.  Each team chose a different song to Our Lady.

They had to learn the dance well in order to be able to perform it later for the Blessed Mother, Our Lady of the Dew.  Once they had learned their dances pretty well, we ate luch and then we had a short meeting where we talked about lying.  Last but not least, they made their own Flamenco costumes.  How?  Using colored garbage bags (clean ones, of course).  That´s how we made the dresses and the ruffles were made out of tissue paper.  They had a blast!

Once the transformation process had taken place and the girls were ready in their Flamenco style, we prayed the rosary to Our Mother Mary.  Then the girls danced their flamenco dances for Our Lady and in front of the other girls.  When the "celebration" had drawn to a close, the girls – all excited – performed a small dance for their parents.  The dance was dircted by a real dance teacher, Teresa García Serrano.  It was beautiful and graceful and truly Flamenco.

That´s all folks…Thanks girls, see you next time!
