BRIEF DESCRIPTION

This project is directed towards the children in the area of Chone, Ecuador, between the ages of one and eleven years.
It consists in providing a meal once a day to around 500 children.

DESINATION OF THE PROJECT

The aid received for the project "Sor Elena Van Keerbergen - Soup Kitchens" will be directed towards helping close to 500 children living in the city of Chone, Ecuador, who lack the most basic nourishment, due to the situation of poverty, often extreme misery, in which their parents live.

These children reside primarily in the most marginal areas of the city: 30 de marzo, Aray, Jorge Gallardo, Bellavisata Alta, Puerto Arturo, and Santa Parta. These areas lack drinkable water, centers of education, health centers, and other infrastructures necessary for the proper and integral development of the population.

PROJECT GOAL

The project's goal is to improve the children's lives so that may have an adecuate phypsical and intellectual development.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

- Allow the children to have a proper physical growth.
- Avoid illnesses caused by lack of food, such as malnutrtion, Evitar enfermedades provocadas por la carencia de alimentación, tales como desnutrición and rickets.
- Favor the schooling of the children, who if they do not receive this food every day will have to work to be able to live
- Avoid conflicts provoked by antisocial behavior when faced with the lack of means of support.

OPERATIVE OBJECTIVES

- Raise the number of meals donated from 360 to 500.
- Give six soup kitchens which are under the social and pastoral care of the parish of St. Cayetano with the necessary resources.

TERRITORY THE PROJECT WILL AFFECT

The territory in which this project will take effect is the city of Chone, which is in the province sharing the same name. It is located between the parallel latitude 0º 08´ N, 0º 52´ S., between Longitude 79º 38´ E y 80º 17´ W.
At present Chone has approximately 100,000 inhabitants, who live in the following suburbs and towns: San Felipe, Central Paraíso, Eugenio Espejo, Vargas Pazos, Aray, Vergel, Camilo Giler, Santa Fe, Buena Esperanza, Santa Marta, Puerto Arturo, Los Almendros, Colamarco, Grecia, Chequelandia, De los Chóferes, San Francisco, De los Profesores, Las Marías, 30 de Marzo, Potrerillo, González, El Bejuco, El Cauca, La Aurora, Dos Bocas, Puntifilos, Kennedy, San Andrés, San Pablo, Del banco de la Vivienda, Las Quemadas and El Terminal.
