THE LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST
The Liturgy of the Eucharist begins with the preparation of the gifts. The Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist are not two different acts of worship, but two moments of one same mystery.
The change from the Liturgy of the Word to the Liturgy of the Eucharist is well marked by the movement of the minister leaving his seat he goes to the altar, which is reserved for the sacrifice.
The Eucharistic liturgy includes the preparation and offering of the gifts, the Eucharistic prayer and communion. This structure is based on Jesus Christ’s actions in the Last Supper when He took the bread and wine, gave thanks, broke it and gave it to His disciples.
