On Saturday, March 9, 2019, we had a silent retreat in Loeches, Madrid, for the Lay Members of the Home of the Mother and other adults who wished to participate. The retreat revolved around the themes of conversion, Lent, and prayer. Eighty adults participated, and everyone enjoyed the experience of silence and prayer which is so necessary and so unusual in this world full of noise and activity.
It was a full day with Mass, exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with points of meditation, confessions, the Way of the Cross, spiritual reading, and a talk. During lunch, we not only fed our bodies but also our souls by reading a book by Jacques Philippe called “Interior Freedom.” Another book by the same author, “Time for God,” was the inspiration for the talk about prayer, which helped many of those attending.
Some of the participants’ children spent the retreat with the Servants Brothers, or in the nursery with the Servant Sisters, and the teenage girls had their own activities with the sisters. Everyone left happy and enriched, excited to live well the rest of Lent and Holy Week. The retreat has helped everyone to see the need for silence and how God’s voice becomes especially clear to us when we take time away from the noise to be attentive to His voice. With the experience of this retreat, everyone agreed that we have to do more in the future!
