This year the community of Lumezzane in Brescia, Italy, the Home of the Mother organized it’s tenth Holy Week Encounter. The theme, just like in the other encounters, was the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The children and teens also had their own activities within the encounter each day.
We began Holy Thursday with the first talk about the Sacred Heart of Jesus and its historical origins. Although there were few adults, we got a lot out of it and it whetted our spiritual appetite to learn more about this devotion.
That night people took turns in adoration at the local parish, beginning the first few hours with prayers and songs led by the Home of the Mother. Each morning there were also meditations given to help live Good Friday and Holy Saturday better.
On Good Friday we had the blessing to welcome Rosanna Brichetti Messori, the wife of Vittori Messori, the Italian author. She gave us a talk on the devotion to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. She truly enriched us with her vast knowledge, complemented with anecdotes of her personal faith journey.
On Holy Saturday we received another blessing: the testimony of the sister of Venerable Benedetta Bianchi Porro, an Italian girl who died at age 27, who fought to offer all her sickness and suffering for love of Jesus. She is going to be beatified on September 14th, 2019.
Two special grace-filled moments for the encounter’s participants were seeing Mel Gibson’s film The Passion on Good Friday, and praying the Rosary with Our Lady of Sorrows on Holy Saturday.
After the Easter Vigil in the parish, we returned to the sisters’ house for the festival to celebrate in the joy of the Risen Lord.
A big “thank you” goes out to everyone who made this encounter possible, and especially to all those in Heaven who bestowed so many graces upon us in very few hours…
