On July 16, 2019, four candidates of Servants of the Home of the Mother took the step of entering as novices on the feast day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The celebration took place in Santander and the friends and families of the four candidates were able to follow the ceremony personally or via Internet broadcast.
The celebration took place joyfully yet solemnly in a family atmosphere. A particularly emotional moment was when the candidates received the habit from Fr. Rafael and, for the first time, put on this garment that represents so much. He then imposed the scapular and the medal that the novices wear.
In the homily, Father Rafael highlighted three words that he wanted to be engraved in the hearts of these new novices: receive, guard and donate.
Father explained that receiving the gift of a vocation is a grace and one had to always be in an attitude of wanting to receive what God wants to give you.
Since the vocation is something so great and beautiful, it must be guarded and protected. We must never put it in danger with our infidelities and always fight so that this gift is not thrown to the swine.
The last word Father explained was the word donate. When one receives something very large, they can’t contain themself, and the gift received, overflows. The same goes for what we have received from God, we have received so much from Him that we cannot keep it to ourselves, we have to give what we have received to others so that everyone can know and love Him who has loved us from all the eternity.
After the Mass we had a small bite to eat and family and friends had time to congratulate the new novices. Then we all gathered together and each of the four shared her impressions of the day and what she thought of the ceremony.
Let us thank the Lord and Our Blessed Mother for augmenting the family of her Servant Sisters. Now we ask that these Sisters of ours be faithful to the gift received, that they’d know how to guard the treasure, and give themselves totally to God and others.
