This summer, From July 28th until August 4th in the Province of Belluno in Northern Italy, the Home of the Mother had its annual girls´summer encounter in Fonzaso.
This year there were 56 girls who participated in the camp from different parts of Italy; Lumezzane, Sarezzo, Brignano Gera d´Adda, Cassano, Lurano, etc. The main theme of the camp was 100% Catholic, and, in adittion to the games, crafts, hikes, and campfires, all through the week we delved into varias aspects of the Christian faith so as to be 100% Catholic, 100% Marian, 100% Child of God, 100% fathiful!
One of the activities that the campers thoroughly enjoyed was visiting a bakery. We spent the whole morning leanring how to make bread, we became familiar with the different machines they use in the bakery and the different types of yeast and the cherry on top was when the family who owns the bakery invited us to a sandwhich and tasty pizzas!
Halfway through camp we had an activity which helped us to overcome ourselves. All the campers hiked to the top of Loreto Mountain and in addition to the physical strength required to climb the mountain, the girls also overcame themselves in their good disposition and joy despite the mistakes that the guides made throughout the hike. The campers started off the hike in the wrong direction and when they realized their mistake they had to backtrack. Even though we started off the hike on the wrong foot, we eventually made it to the top where the Church of our Lady of Loreto was waiting for us. There was a good enviroment on the hike thanks to the girls who kept singing and encouraging each other and the group leaders who were always willing to help the others and it ended up being a good experience for all. Surely our Blessed Mother will listen to and attend the intentiones that the campers offered up the hike for.
A few days later we took another, shorter hike to St. Michael´s hermit by climbing up a rocky mountainside. In this place there was also a statue of our Lady of Lourdes that looks down upon the town and that we looked up to every night from our camp site to say good night to our Lady with the Salve Regina.
Sunday, August 4th, was the last day of camp. We participated in Sunday Mass in the parish in the town of Fonzaso and the people there gave a warm welcome to the campers. We have to give thanks to our Lord and our Blessed Mother for all that they allowed us to live in this week of camp and we commend to them the continuation of the spiritual fruits that have started to grow in the souls of these girls.
