In the Community of Valencia we had an intense and active Advent, spent close to our Lord to prepare us for Him coming. All of the members of the Home of the Mother, lay, youth and consecrated prepared their hearts the best we could to receive Jesus with our hearts full of Hope.
The first activity we had was a retreat to prepare ourselves in silence and contemplation in the Monastery of the Trinity in the center of Valencia, with over 30 participants. We started off Advent by imitating Mary who “kept all of these things in her heart.”
This one day silent retreat left us wanting more and the next weekend we started four days of Spiritual Exercises, led by Fr. Henry, Servant Priest of the Home of the Mother, with members from all over Spain.
Having finished our exercises, we were ready to bring what we contemplated in silence to the activity of our every day life. We decided to communicate the joy we experienced in silence, to those around us in the weekend of Gaudete Sunday, the day when the whole Church rejoices for the quickly approaching coming of our Lord. We went to visit the sick in the nearby hospitals and sick people who can not leave their houses. On Saturday, Demeber 21st, we went to the center of Valencia to sing Christmas carols and wish everyone a Merry Christmas. We brought along a statue of the Baby Jesus so that everyone could see Him and remember the reason for the season. It was neat to see how so many peoples faces lit up upon seeing the Baby Jesus or hearing the Christmas carols that speak about His coming. Now a days, Christmas is all about presents, light and food and nobody even remembers Jesus or why we celebrate what we celebrate.
We would like to thank all of the families that accompanied us during these weeks, and in a special way, thanks to the children who were the main apostles! May the Child Jesus keep them pure and innocent their whole lives.
And to all those who are reading this article and who are close to the Home of the Mother, we want to wish you all a very merry and blessed Christmas and may the Child Jesus shine his face upon your family and your home.
