Get-together in Ascoli Piceno

images14On Sunday, November 15th, a get-together for the families of the Home of the Mother from Ascoli Piceno, Italy, took place. The sisters from Rome: Sr. Kristen, Sr. Anna Riordan, Sr. Emma and Sr. María Luisa arrived there on Saturday evening.

A total of 4 families got together, some of whom are members of the Home, in the village of Monte Vidon Combatte. Those present were: Gioconda and Alfonso, Luciano and Maria, Giuliano and Rosella, and Angelo and Lydia.

In the morning we went to Mass in the village of "Collina". After Mass we had a short time to greet each other and chat. Some people from the parish, whom we know from other trips, also came to greet us. We were able to experience how the simple testimony of consecrated life is good for the soul. Many told us that for them it is a grace to see us every time we vist. Just this Sunday during Mass they had received the news that the priest was left alone to tend to four parishes and that the number of Masses was to be decreased. The priest asked people to pray: "Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest."

We talked about the life of the lay people in the world, commenting on a chapter of the book "Lay paths of perfection" by José María Iraburu. All agreed with the author that the laity have to live in the world without being of the world. We talked about how the layman does not have to flee the world but free the world of evil influences through his testimony, with prayer, with work, and with the example of a God-centered family.

The kids also had their own meeting with the sisters and played with them.

Finally, thanks to the generosity of all, we ate lunch together. During the meal, Giuliano told us that he had just left the hospital after having surgery for heart problems. He said that the Lord was giving him great peace and joy in suffering from the moment he put his life in God's hands and that the disease was a blessing for the whole family because it was uniting them and bringing them closer to the Lord.
Blessed be God!{jcomments on}
