The weekend of October 1st-3rd, the diocese of Getafe (Spain) organized a youth pilgrimage to the Marian shrine of Guadalupe, in the province of Cáceres. The Servant Sisters of the community of Getafe, who are currently living in Móstoles, accompanied the 550 young people this weekend.
After about 3 hours by bus from Madrid, the 10 buses of young people came to Puerto San Vicente, where we would sleep the first night. The next day, after breakfast and praising the Lord, we began to walk. The time went by fast as we were singing, talking, and praying. Many young people had the opportunity to cleanse their souls, as there were priests who walked on the sides of the road wearing a purple stoles, waiting for those who wanted to go to confession.
At noon we reached Alia, where we ate and spent the afternoon. We all celebrated Mass together in the church and then we split into groups to have catechism lessons. After dinner, the seminarians of Getafe entertained us with a fun theater that they had prepared. We ended the day with a Holy Hour, which gave opportunity to young people have a face to face encounter with Jesus Christ.
The next day, as soon as we got up, we began to walk the last stretch (10 kilometers) to Guadalupe. We arrived very tired, but very happy, because Our Lady was waiting for us there. In the Mass, when we reached the Marian shrine, two 16 year old young people received their First Holy Communion. Afterwards, we were all able to get close to the image of Our Lady to greet her and kiss her medal. She was truly present throughout the whole pilgrimage.
We give thanks to God for all the fruits that He has poured into these days. Below we have prepared a video (in Spanish) for you to see some images of the pilgrimage.
