The Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother in Móstoles (Madrid, Spain) are have been having a great time as the school year has drawn to a close. We´ve already visited Narnia twice, following in the footsteps of author C.S. Lewis, who tried to convey the Christian message with his fiction books ¨The Chronicles of Narnia¨ to a difficult audience: children and young people.
Our first trip to Narnia took place on April 26th in collaboration with Getafe´s Diocesan Teaching Delegation. 3,000 religious ed. kids, ages 11-13, came together in La Granja de San Ildefonso in the province of Segovia, where they were met by characters from Narnia (who were really their teachers dressed up). In the near-by churche they came face to face with Aslan, or better said, Jesus Christ, who was waiting for them in the Eucharist, ready to embrace them in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The priests had some amazing stories to tell when they had finished hearing confessions: some of the kids who confessed for the first time must have made the Heart of God rejoice that day. For some of the kids, it was only their second confession, because many of the 11 to 13 years olds had not gone to confession since their First Communion.
It was an exhausting day, though the rain was not able to put out Narnia´s magic. The Lord poured Himself out into those young people, who are often looking for God, albeit unknowingly, in their problems and their struggles.
We made our second trip to Narnia with the First Communion catechism class from our parish, Our Lady of the Rosary and of Hope, from Móstoles. There were fewer kids – about 40 of them – but the trip was no less exciting; it ended up being a very special day. We are sure that Our Blessed Mother played with us among the pines at Finca Liana, where we found ourselves once again with the characters from Narnia.
The Sisters, catechism teachers, and school teachers were always tired at the end of the day, yet there were moments when you could see God and Our Lady working so clearly in the hearts of these young people that we couldn´t cease to give thanks to God. And all of us would be ready to sign up again for a trip to Narnia, come what may.
We hope you can take part in the next adventure that Our Lady has prepared for us!
