The streets throughout the Valencia neighborhood Torrefiel (Spain) were festively adorned in order to welcome on the weekend of June 1st the pilgrim state of Our Lady of the Forsaken to Sts. Dionysius and Pancracius Parish, which the Servant Priests and Brothers of the Home of the Mother have been running since October when Archbishop Carlos Osoro of Valencia asked them to take charge of the parish.
¨When we first arrived here, we asked to receive the pilgrim image of the Mother of God at our parish in light of the 50th anniversary of the Parish´s Celebrations Committee ¨, explained the parish priest, Fr. José Javier Martins de Passos, S.H.M.
The statue of the patroness of Valencia departed from the basilica on Friday at 7 o´clock in the evening, headed towards Peset Aleixandre Square, where it was welcomed by the faithful, who then processed directly to Sts. Dionysius and Pancracius Parish.
The celebration continued into Saturday at the church; at noon the rosary and Angelus were prayed before the image of Our Lady. That afternoon, the image of the Mother of God was brought in procession through the neighborhood streets, with flowers strewn throughout by members of the committee. Traditional regional dances were also performed.
At 11 on Sunday morning, a solemn mass was celebrated in the parish, and afterwards, the statute was carried in procession to Peset Aleixandre Square, where it was then returned to Our Lady of the Forsaken Basilica in Valencia.
