Renewing Vows in Ecuador

Sisters Merly and Martha renewed their temporal vows for one more year at Our Lady of Loretto Parish in Guayaquil, Ecuador this past July 2nd.

The ceremony was presided by Archbishop Antonio Arregui Yarza, the President of the Ecuadorian Episcopal Conference. Despite the archbishop´s weak health and tight schedule, he was kind enough to accompany the Sisters in the renewal of their vows.

Fr. Francis Sojos, Fr. José Manuel Delgado, and Fr. Javier Tigrero - who currently runs the parish - were also invited to concelebrate.

ComulgandoDuring his homily, Archbishop Antonio not only emphasized the importance of living the evangelical councils, so as to show forth to the world the importance of heavenly goods, he also spoke of how glad he was that the Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother form part of the parish community. In addition, some of the very committed lay people in the parish outdid themselves in preparing the church and the reception. They did a beautiful job in spite of the added challenge of the construction work that is taking place in the parish.

We can´t leave out the grace that, for the celebration in Guayaquil, 11 Sisters, plus the candidates and aspirants, from the communities of Chone and Playa Prieta, were able to join us. The lay members and young people of the Home of the Mother from Manabí also came in order to celebrate the Sisters´ joy of renewing their vows.

De rodillasIt was the first time that most of the people at the ceremony had seen anyone renew their vows. They were very impressed. As always, the ceremony was very simple, yet solemn and meaningful. Our Lord and His Mother make their presence felt during these ceremonies for all those who participate.

When the ceremony was over, the meal began with a toast given by Fr. Francisco Sojos, giving thanks for consecrated life. There was a family environment and people left really happy, not just because the food that had been prepared with so much love was delicious, but also because the ceremony was a grace for the entire parish of Our Lady of Loretto.

We thank God for these Sisters; renewing their yes to God before the Church and entire world is a witness to the joy of leaving everything and belonging only to Him.
