This October 11, 2012 will begin the Year of the Faith, that will end on November 24, 2013, the Solemnity of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. The date of opening coincides with two important anniversaries: the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, and the 20th anniversary of the promulgation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
The Holy Father, Benedict XVI, has desired to convoke this Year of the Faith to invite us once more to an authentic conversion to the Lord, to an intensification of our life of faith and to a reflexion over the contents of the faith that we confess, in such a way that we may be true witnesses for those that still do not know Christ.
It is worth reading the Apostolic Letter Porta Fidei, in which the Holy Father expresses the aim and the expectations of this Year of the Faith. Another reading recommended to prepare oneself for this celebration is the "Pastoral Recommendations for the Year of the Faith" of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, where there are found concrete examples of how to live it.
The Congregation in charge of the Year of the Faith, the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization, has launched a website, www.annusfidei.va, where one can follow the news, the calender of the events and celebrations, etc. Moreover, the Pontifical Council puts at disposition many recourses for reading and for reflexion. On the website there are links to the recommended reading for this year: Catechism of the Catholic Church, Compendium of the Catechism, the catequesis of the Holy Father about the Apostoles, about the women of faith and about prayer...and much more.
It is a year to deepen in our faith, a year in which the Lord wants to pour out many graces. Let us take advantage of it from the start.
