The boys of the HMY got together in Playa Prieta from February 9-11 for an encounter.
On the morning of Saturday, February 9th, nine boys, left the parish of Our Lady of Loreto, Guayaquil, with Father Dominic and Brother Kevin, to spend some days in Playa Prieta, Manabí, (Ecuador).
There, 14 more boys came, 11 from Playa Prieta and 3 from Chone. The boys were able to take time out for reflection and fun in a healthy environment, far from all the superficiality that the carnivals offer. The noisy environment that surrounds us entraps man in a life without meaning. Therefore, a healthy environment where the youth can grow in their relationship with God and in true fraternity among themselves, is a treasure that the boys value.
We enjoyed games, sports, swimming in the river and delicious food that two women of the Home of the Mother from Playa Prieta prepared for us. And all this with the spiritual food of prayer, the celebration of the Holy Mass, the confessions and the faith formation talks has helped us to spend some unforgettable days together.
We give thanks to the Lord for the shower of graces that He has poured out upon us during these days. We pray to Our Lady that all the good desires that the Lord has placed into the hearts of these boys may become reality in their daily life.
"The encounter was incredible. To get up at 6:30 and see everyone’s sleepy faces, and then to get together for the morning prayers, was very funny. The work during the day, and the times for games also were awesome. I truly understood what a day given to God is and what it is to live with others while giving of yourself.
I'm sure that there's a lot more to say, but I think that nothing I write would be understood if it has not been lived. I give thanks to God that he has brought me to know the Servant Brothers of the Home of the Mother". (Andrés Saltos, HMY Guayaquil)
"I had a great time, because they taught us to make prayer the center of our lives, even in the midst of all the noise around us. They taught us to be responsible, making us realize the meaning of many virtues and giving us formation talks.
In the mornings, after breakfast, we went to the chapel, and later there was time for chores, like sweeping, washing the dishes, mopping the floor... During the afternoons, when we went to the river, we went in procession praying the rosary. This helped us to learn to forget our own laziness and selfishness.
After supper, we had a bonfire and finished off the day in the chapel to pray our night prayers, and to thank God for the wonderful day that He gave us. Lastly, we went to rest with his blessing". (Yeico García, HMY Guayaquil).
