In Lumezzane, Brescia (Italy), February 11th, the Feast Day of the Our Lady of Lourdes, was a day dedicated totally to Our Lady.
At 10 am we all met up in the Don Rovetta Center in our parish, Saint Apollonius, for a get-together. About 30 elementary and middle school aged girls came.
To begin, we organized everyone in teams and we played some games to warm ourselves up, while we watched the snow falling outside.
After this warm-up, we went to warm up our hearts as well, with prayer before the Blessed Sacrament in the chapel. The points of meditation were about having the courage to give testimony of our faith. Later there was time for personal prayer in silence, for each one to be alone with Jesus.
When we finished prayer, we had an arts and crafts workshop, in which we made a type of wallet out of fabric and leather for our rosary.
Then came lunchtime. What a great tasting pasta! Everyone wanted seconds. Once we had finished eating, we played a game. The goal was to travel to all the Marian shrines of the world. We went to Lourdes, Fatima, Guadalupe, Pilar, Loreto, Mount Carmel... We even went to Moscow (Russia). Each team had their own "tour guide" that took them through the world to visit the different shrines, to learn the story of each one, and to put them to the test to see if they were truly pilgrims or were just clueless tourists. At the end of the pilgrimage, there was a written "test" to see if they had paid attention. All the teams won a prize: a pilgrimage to a Marian shrine with all the expenses paid.
After this super fun game, we wanted to honor Our Lady and pray to her in a special way for our dear Holy Father Benedict XVI on this very important day, praying the rosary and singing songs to the Blessed Virgin...which, by the way, we could use some practice!
To end this intense day, we played the final game in which the girls had to dance in pairs with a balloon between their foreheads without letting it fall. It was hilarious! Some girls were pretty talented! We ended with a delicious snack, since so much activity made us hungry.
