Vacations Oratory for the boys of the H.M.Y. of Guayaquil (Ecuador), October 7-10, 2013.
In Ecuador, there was a 2-week school break in October. The Home of the Mother of the Youth, in its masculine branch, gave the boys the possibility of spending the second week of vacations with sports, games, crafts and prayer. Imitating the example of St. John Bosco, patron of the youth, we offered the boys a vacation oratory.
The oratory began at 9:30 in the morning with prayer: the angelus, the consecration to Our Lady and the daily offering to the Heart of Jesus that all the members of the Home of the Mother pray every day. At 10:00, the teams of the day were made to begin the crafts. After crafts, we played sports or games. On Monday we played capture the flag; on Tuesday we searched for the hidden treasure, a Rosary; on Wednesday we had a soccer tournament in the fields of the citadel of El Condor the entire morning; on Thursday we had a steel man competition that consisted of races and catechism challenges, and afterwards we went to the pool to cool off.
In the afternoons, from 4:30-5:30, we continued the games. Later we prayed the rosary in procession through the streets, singing to the Blessed Virgin, especially for this month of October which is the month of the rosary. When we reached the parish, the altar servers prepared to serve on the altar. And at 7 we had Mass.
This is the first time that the vacation oratory has been held for the boys in the Parish of Our Lady of Loreto in Guayaquil. We hope to be able to continue offering them the opportunity to use vacation time well, in the company of the Blessed Virgin and Our Lord.
