A Thanksgiving Get-Together

thanksgivingThanksgiving Family Encounter in Jacksonville, Florida (United States), November 28th-30th 2014.

In Jacksonville, Florida (United States) we had our annual Thanksgiving Encounter, a time to catch up, meet new families and grow in our faith. The retreat began the Friday after Thanksgiving Day, in Assumption parish, which the pastor, Fr. Fred Parker, generously allowed us to use.

The formation talks this year were on the Eucharist: the Real Presence and its Sacrificial Meaning. Both Friday and Saturday there were points of mediation, talks, evening Mass, as well as a family rosary, games and a movie.

Friday we began with lunch, followed by points of meditation, prayer, and a talk. During this time, the girls and boys had games, talks and activities on their own with the sisters and brothers, respectively. In the evening, we celebrated Mass followed by dinner and a family rosary.

On Saturday we began with breakfast, points of meditation and prayer, followed by a talk and lunch. After lunch we played kickball and other family games. In the afternoon, Dr. Mary Soha gave a talk on the Eucharist and the family. After the talk, families gathered for a rosary walk followed by Mass and dinner. In the evening we had s’mores and a family movie to enjoy.

Included in the weekend retreat were separate boys and girls day retreats: preview for what awaits them in our summer camp with games, crafts and fun! The older girls also made a day trip to St. Augustine to meet the Cenaculo Girls’ Community, to serve and spend time together praying and sharing lunch.

Sunday we wrapped up the retreat with points of meditation, prayer and Mass with the parish.

There is exciting news for all the members of the Home of the Mother! At the end of the retreat, the Karney and Shields families entered the Home of the Mother, consecrating themselves to Mary and taking on our three missions.

The retreat went well and hopefully it will bear fruit in the daily lives of those who attended!
