Girl’s get together in Lumezzane, Brescia (Italy), April 26, 2015.
On Sunday, April 26, the Servant Sisters of Lumezzane organized a day retreat for elementary school girls. Some older girls also came to help out as monitors, to whom we wish to thank for all their hard work. Thank You!
We started the day off with Mass in the parish and from there we went to the Sister’s house, and that is where the whole adventure started. After singing songs to "break the ice", we went into the large hall for the show: "Just a step from Heaven", in which the presenter, Riccarda, interviewed St. Josephine Bakhita from Sudan (Africa). It was fascinating hearing the story, full of adventures, of this strong woman! After the show, Bakhita came down from the stage to show us an African dance. What charisma that of Bakhita! Her joy was contagious.
Afterwards, we started our African safari. First we took the plane to Africa. Then, each team had their own jeep to go through the jungle, with waterfalls, wild animals, etc. Each girl was a fictional character: scientists who were studying the routes of elephants, missionaries, young volunteers that were going to help in missions, a family on a trip, etc. The goal of the safari was the shrine of Our Lady of Africa, but, when they arrived ..., Oh no! They discovered that some thieves had stolen the statue of Our Lady… So they had to play detective and, following the clues, find the lost image. In the end, they found it, and we prayed together in the shrine, giving thanks to our Mother for having accompanied us during the whole safari.
Later on, each girl built her own miniature shrine. At the end of the day, after a quick snack to regain the strength lost in the jungle, we prepared a play about the life of St Josephine Bakhita, to act it out for the girls' parents. It was a total success. All the actresses were worthy of winning an Oscars. We hope that they all become as holy as Josephine Bakhita!
