Girls’ Hiking Trip in Georgia, USA – July 27-August 12, 2015.
Blood Mountain, Tallulah Falls, Blue Ridge Mountains: These are the rigorous mountains that await us as 10 of the older girls and 6 sisters took a road trip to Georgia for a week of intense hiking. The battle cry "Verso l'alto!” (“To the Summit”) and the Litanies of the Blessed Virgin Mary were echoed throughout the Appalachian Mountains, all of this to encourage each other to persevere and not give up, even when the path becomes difficult.
In the same way as we need encouragement from each other, proper food and enough water to have the strength to actually reach the summit of the mountain we also need it in our spiritual life.
“The Meeting Tent”
“Moses used to pitch a tent outside the camp at some distance. It was called the tent of meeting… The Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as a person speaks to a friend.” -Exodus 33:7 and 11
Everyday of the hiking trip began with the Holy Mass celebrated by the Servant Brothers and a time of prayer to speak with the Lord present in the Eucharist. He, who sustains the mountains and holds them in place, becomes small, vulnerable, and hidden just to be with us. As the Lord conquers our hearts, we spend the rest of the day conquering ourselves as well as the mountain to grow in virtue and strive for holiness. And so we say along with Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, “To the Summit!”
