The Mission of the Laity

mision laicoGet together for the Laity and the young people in Móstoles (Madrid), Spain, on February 20, 2016.

On Saturday, February 20th we had a get-together for the lay members and friends of the Home of the Mother, both adults and youth, in the parish of Our Lady of the Rosary and of Hope of Móstoles (Madrid).

We started at 12 noon with the Eucharist, celebrated by Father Juan, SHM. Then we had an hour of adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, a gift for all those in attendance, the “oxygen” for our souls, so necessary with the hustle and bustle of everyday life. During adoration, Fr. Juan was hearing confessions.

At about 2:00 p.m. we had lunch and we celebrated the birthdays of Sister Ana Maria and Natalia, a young lady from the HMY. For the occasion, we did some last minute decorations which, although simple, they were very pretty. After eating the delicious dishes that everyone brought to share, we prayed the rosary with songs in the chapel.

mision laico2At 5:30 p.m. we began the conference with a talk titled “The vocation and mission of the laity” that was given by Juan José Rodríguez Vicente, the diocesan Delegate from the Secular Apostolate Office of Getafe. It was a very interesting talk in which he spoke to us about the wonderful vocation of the family and marriage, which implies going against the tide, while everyone else goes down, we try to go up. At the same time, he reminded us that we must love beyond all appearances, that in our everyday concerns, such as the mortgage, the children, unemployment... the same concerns for those who have no faith, but we must deal with them without staying immersed in them, rather glimpsing always towards the goal. With great enthusiasm, he told us that Christ should be our model of self-giving love, that it is not just a feeling.

At around 7:00 p.m., the get together ended. With great sadness and with our customary prolonged farewell, we all went home, feeling in our hearts that these get-togethers help us tremendously and, above all, unite us more, making us have the real sense of family, of a real Home.
