Creative initiatives of the Catholic Schools in the Jacksonville, Florida area to support the missions in Ecuador.
Throughout the season of Lent this year, various Catholic schools in Jacksonville worked to help support Project Miserere. The Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother explained to the children and staff of the schools the aims and needs of Project Miserere and quickly the schools found creative ways to give support.
Each must do as already determined, without sadness or compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. Moreover, God is able to make every grace abundant for you, so that in all things, always having all you need, you may have an abundance for every good work. (2 Cor. 9: 7-8)
At Resurrection Catholic School, they organized a field day to help raise money for Project Miserere. Grades pre-k through 2nd did a “hop-a-thon”, grades 3rd and 4th did a “Hoop-a-thon” and “Jump-a-thon”, while the 7th and 8th grades did a “Jog-a-thon”. The students collected pledges for the efforts they made to jump, hop or run.
At Blessed Trinity Catholic School, they focused all their support in one area to be able to help buy a much needed Copy Machine for the Holy Family School in Playa Prieta. All the children brought in money in order to donate what they could to show their support for the missions.
At Assumption Catholic School, the kids received small boxes at the beginning of Lent where they could gradually collect coins or dollars. Many offered up not eating their daily snack, while others gave all their savings to fill their “piggy bank for the missions”. The 8th graders also showed great initiatives, thinking on their own of creative ways to further raise support for their adopted school, Holy Family in Playa Prieta. On March 17th, they proposed that for every green item a student wanted to wear to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, they had to pay $1. Some went all out to show their support! Another day, they organized to have a Barbeque during their Softball games in order to raise funds.
Thank you to all the Schools for their support and generous hearts! Every little bit helps, and as we know, God will never be outdone in GENEROSITY!!
