Get Together for Girls in Brignano, Italy – December 30 – 31, 2016.
Last year, December 30 – 31, to be exact, the Servant Sisters in Brignano planned a get together for elementary-aged girls. We began on Friday evening with games while the girls arrived. Later, we went to the chapel to spend some time in prayer with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament accompanied by songs and silent prayer. It was a very beautiful moment in which we contemplated the figures of the Nativity Scene that we put in the chapel. They teach us so much! Afterwards, we had dinner. The troops were hungry...
After dinner, we all helped prepare a special dessert: chocolate chip cookies! How exciting! While they were baking in the oven, we saw a movie that tells Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan’s story, The Miracle Worker. When the cookies were ready, we ate them while we finished the movie. Before going to bed, we reflected upon it together, talking about what we had learned. It was the first sleepover for many of the girls. They were excited.
The next morning, we went to the chapel to pray and see what resolutions we could make for the New Year 2017. We give kisses to the Child Jesus while we sang, “Niño lindo, ante ti me rindo” (a Spanish Christmas song that some of the girls had learned at school) and “Tu scendi dalle stelle (a classic Italian Christmas song attributed to St. Alphonsus Liguori). Later, we played and took a group picture to remember such a beautiful get together.
