Boys’ Get-Together in Madrid (Spain), February 10th – 12th, 2017.
In February, the Community of Madrid began to organize Get-Togethers for boys again. In addition to the boys that belong to the Home, other boys from the parishes in Villalbilla, Zulema, Los Hueros, and Pozuelo del Rey, where the Servant Priests and Brothers serve, also participated. Altogether, there were 54 of us. During this Get-Together, Our Lady of Lourdes accompanied us as the Immaculate Conception.
On Saturday, February 11th, we had planned a trip to the Escorial, but the snow impeded us from being able to go. Instead, Divine Providence and the hand of the Virgin Mary guided us to Toledo. Upon arriving, we went to visit the Virgen del Valle (The Virgin of the Valley), where we prayed the Angelus, a mystery of the Rosary, and sang some songs to Our Lady. The people that take care of the shrine let all the boys ring the bell, asking Our Lady for a special grace. After taking some group shots, we went to the center of the city by bus.
After walking for a while in the streets, we arrived at the Convent of the Immaculate Conception Order, founded by St. Beatrice de Silva, where Our Blessed Mother again took us by the hand and received us. Fr. Joseph celebrated Mass there and the contemplative Sisters also joined us. After the celebration of the Eucharist, some of the boys were able to meet and speak with the nuns, who transmitted their joy and love for the Immaculate Conception to us.
Afterwards, we ate lunch at a nearby park followed by a few soccer games with the boys. Later on, we divided the boys into two groups, according to age, to be able to have some formation talks led by Br. Luis and Br. Pablo.
Since it was already late, we made our way back to Villalbilla. Once we arrived at the parish, about 41 of the boys stayed at the parish center to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes with pizza and brownies. We ended the day with a hero movie that left us with the following message: “To be a great hero, you do not have to do great things; rather, you must do the correct thing.”
On Sunday morning, before the children’s Mass in Villalbilla, we celebrated a big soccer tournament. The boys who are altar servers sold heart-shaped “God's Love cookies,” along with a Bible passage about the love of the Lord. Since it was the second Sunday of the month, in which we celebrate the Divine Mercy with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament all afternoon, the boys led the Divine Mercy Chaplet in song at 3:00 pm. Later in the afternoon, we played the final games and challenges in the Cultural Center of the town, and the boys were able to win some more prizes. We concluded the Get-Together by awarding the boys who had the greatest spirit of service and were the most responsible, punctual, pious, and generous.
We hope to see you at the next Get-Together! Our Lady of Lourdes, the Immaculate Conception, pray for us!
