Celebration of the solemnity of the Blessed Mary, Ever Virgin, in Playa Prieta (Ecuador), July 2, 2017.
On July 2nd, at 9:30 a.m., Monsignor Lorenzo Voltolini Esti, Archbishop of Portoviejo, arrived at Holy Family School to celebrate the Solemnity of the Blessed Mary, Ever Virgin with the community of Playa Prieta. He shared his enthusiasm for this celebration by taking advantage of the opportunity to wear a new white and blue chasuble that had been given to him as a gift.
The celebration was held with great solemnity, but without losing the touches of simplicity and the closeness between our Archbishop and the community. He spoke of the Virginity of Mary as the fulfillment of the promise of God in the Old Testament. It is not just a simple privilege of Our Mother, but the manifestation that She participates in God’s plan of salvation.
With great sadness, we had to bid farewell to the Bishop after the celebration, as he had other commitments to attend to in the afternoon, but he did not leave without expressing that he would have loved to spend the day there with us. Our hearts rejoiced to hear him say that this solemnity “is a gift for our diocese”. Hopefully the day will come when we can say the same thing with the whole Church!
After the celebration, we had a get together with the whole Home of the Mother of Playa Prieta. We were surprised that the boys outnumbered the girls at that moment! After a wonderful barbecue, we had some time to reflect on what we had celebrated and share ideas amongst us. At the end of the day, we all prayed the rosary with songs to Our Mother.
While the girls stayed for a while to sing to Our Lady, the boys said goodbye in order to spend the rest of the afternoon playing soccer at the Rio Chico Stadium.
We have all experienced a great joy of living together this day as members of the Home of the Mother. All Glory be to God and Our Mother for such an excellent gift of the Perpetual Virginity of Mary!
