On July 16, 2017, the Home of the Mother had the great joy of celebrating the entrance of ten candidates to the novitiate as Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother.

The rite of entrance took place during the Mass presided by Bishop D. Juan Antonio Reig Pla in the Cathedral of Alcalá de Henares, at 5:30 p.m. The sisters who entered were Amelia Ong from Singapore; Doménica Salazar, Kasandra Moreno, María Fernanda Chóez, Naomi Cabrera and Nuvia González, all of them from Guayaquil, Ecuador; Belén Garde from Madrid; María Fra and Marta Sequeiros from Alcalá de Henares, and Miriam Ferrer, from Priego, Spain.

The Cathedral was filled with family, friends, and members of the Home of the Mother and all of those who wanted to join the Servant Sisters in this great event. Later, a celebration was held in the Dominican monastery of Loeches for around 400 people.

We then had a meeting, and Father Rafael interviewed the new sisters and their families, asking them how they had lived that day. He also asked the families if they had noticed their daughters’ vocations from a young age. We sang songs to Our Blessed Mother; it was a very special and fraternal moment!

Our Mother made herself present throughout the day, and we could feel her blessing in every moment. Some of the novices had the grace of participating, the night before, in the vigil of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel with the Carmelites of Loeches, led by Fr. Fermín Peiró, Vicar for religious life in Alcalá de Henares. They experienced the presence and the protection of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, as if she was assuring them that she would take them by the hand to join the Servants Sisters, her daughters. Let us give thanks to the Lord for continuing to bless us with new souls willing to give everything for Him, by the hand of Mary, Our Mother, model, and teacher.

Bishop Reig Pla began his homily commenting on some of the points of the statutes of the Servant Sisters, and recalled that “the victory belongs to God. As soon as we leave an opening, He sneaks in and does great works, despite our fragility.” In the same way, he expressed his joy by adding that “we need virgins who follow the model of the Virgin Mary. But when you feel uncertain or have doubts, when suffering arrives— and it will arrive— know that He will always carry you in His arms. You are young women who, with your weaknesses, put yourselves in the hands of the Lord.” He added that “the Bridegroom has kissed their souls,” alluding to the Song of Songs, “and now they do not want to leave Him. So they are clothed in white, symbol of the pure love that they want to give Him. They want to be bound to Him!” On several occasions, he mentioned Sr. Clare and the girls who died in the earthquake in Ecuador, indicating that they have paved the way to reach our goal: Heaven.

He ended his homily affirming that they are “beautifying themselves with the grace of God,” and encouraged them to live under the light yoke of the Lord, so as not to deviate in any direction, neither right nor left. He gave them as a motto, “Inscribe this into your heart: ‘Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and the rest will be added unto you.’”
