A missionary dinner to raise funds for Ecuador took place on October 14th, in the parish of San Apollonio in Lumezzane, Italy.
Most of the organization and preparation was done thanks to the Lay members of the Home of the Mother from Lumezzane. They were also the cooking team. We were able to count on a group of young people from the parish to serve the dinner, which consisted in “lo spiedo” (a typical dish from Brescia).
We started off the dinner with pictures of the current projects in Ecuador, mostly those of the school in Playa Prieta so that those present could see the work done with the money from previous fundraisers. While we saw the pictures, Sr. Rocio explained what the sisters do in Ecuador. She also spoke about the great poverty there, using pictures to illustrate.
Afterwards, Veronica Venturini, a young woman from the parish, sang the Italian version of Sr. Clare’s song “I Prefer Paradise.” Some of the girls that belong to the Home sang with her, while Maria Chiara played the guitar. Then we ate dinner. There were about 260 people, many people brought the whole family along.
The dinner ended with a few words from our parish priest, Fr. Francesco, and from Sr. Rocio thanking people for participating and encouraging them to accompany the material help with prayer as well.
