On Saturday, October 21, the Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother in Torrent, Valencia, went to Nules, a place where we help out in the parish with catechism classes, to have a retreat with the youth in preparation for their Confirmation.
At 9:00am, we met up with the young people and the catechists in the Discalced Carmelites’ old chapel to begin the retreat. We began the day in the chapel with a brief moment of prayer as well as a particular prayer of sending forth, directed by the parochial vicar, Fr. Manuel. When this little celebration ended, we went outside to get organized and began walking. Yes, walking. What we did was a walking pilgrimage to the beaches at Nules and where there is also a little chapel for that area. That’s where we were going to spend the day. Upon arriving after an hour of walking, the first person we greeted was Jesus in the tabernacle. Afterwards we went to the back of the chapel where there was a little porch to have a snack and get our strength back. Meanwhile one of the sisters started a game for everyone, creating a family-like atmosphere. When we finished we watched a video about suffering to then talk about it in small groups. It was a very wholesome moment in which the youth were able to share their thoughts on the subject and resolve their doubts. Some of them said, “I’m discovering new things.”
Following the group meetings, we had a Holy Hour with them. We spent it with Our Blessed Mother since we were in the month of the Rosary. Fr. Manuel exposed the Blessed Sacrament, and while we were praying before Jesus, he heard the young people’s confessions. Afterwards we ate lunch together followed by a team game that everyone participated in. It was a lot of fun. We ended the retreat with the celebration of Mass and then returned on foot to Nules.
We hope that the Lord and Our Blessed Mother have touched their hearts and that these youth begin the school year filled with their love.
