On February 11–12 we went with some girls from Lumezzane to join the get-together that the Sisters in Brignano were going to have with a group of girls.
We headed for Brignano on February 11 in the afternoon. When we arrived, the Sisters and other girls from Brignano were waiting for us to have dinner. It was a very special dinner because it was one of the girl’s birthday. Of course, dinner finished with cake and typical cookies from the area called chiacchiere. After dinner, we prayed the parish Rosary on our patio. There is a grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes there. It was already dark, so we brought out torches and sang traditional songs to Our Lady during the Rosary. We were so happy to be with Our Blessed Mother that we did not even feel cold. It was a beautiful Rosary that we offered above all for the sick and those who are dedicated to taking care of the sick.
When the Rosary finished, we went inside to play some games. It was late, so we had a Good Night talk about Our Lady of Lourdes and how happy we are when we are with her, just looking at her. Before finally going to sleep, we went outside to sing a song to Our Lady in front of the grotto.
The next day, February 12, following breakfast went to greet Our Lord and Our Lady in the chapel with the Angelus and Morning Offering. We had a brief meeting about happiness based on the quote Our Lady said to St. Bernadette: "I do not promise you happiness in this life, but in the next." We talked about how the happiness the world offers is different than the one God offers us, what Jesus said about happiness in the Gospel, and finished with something practical looking at how there is more joy in giving than in receiving.
Since we were going to spend our time with the Virgin Mary, the craft was also Marian: Our Lady with the Child Jesus. The girls did a great job and the result were works of art. When the craft was finished, we got into the cars and headed for Crema to visit the Shrine of Holy Mary of the Cross. Since we arrived at lunchtime, our first activity was lunch. The Shrine is under the care of the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit, a religious congregation of Apostolic Life, who opened the oratory so that we could eat there.
After lunch we played for a while, making the most of the big spaces of the oratory. One of the brothers of the community took moment to explain the story of the apparition of Our Lady and the Shrine to the girls. We finished the explanation by going down to the apparition site where Our Lady appeared and entrusted our prayers to her. We said goodbye to Our Lady and returned home to finish our get-together with Mass at Assumption Parish in Brignano. It was time for those of us from Lumezzane to go back home.
With our hearts full of everything that we had learned in such a small amount of time, we headed back home until next time.
