It all began with an idea, a dream, a spark in the heart of a parish priest. Who could have ever imagined what the Lord had in mind for this Youth Mission?
The Mission began with a Mass in which Fr. Giancarlo (the pastor of Izano-Salvirola) gave a blessing to the Sisters to send them out to take a message of hope, in the name of the Lord, to the youth of Izano and Salvirola.
On Monday we began to visit the youth in their homes to speak with and invite them to the different initiatives that were going to take place during the week. One could think, “Is such a short visit to a young person’s house really worth it? Does it really change anything?” It is not a small matter to help them see that the Church cares about them, that God exists, and that He has something to offer them for their lives.
From Monday to Friday we ate dinner with the young people in the parish. With our whole heart, we thank the parents who made it possible! The parents made a huge effort to prepare the meals and dining room. They also offered sacrifices and prayers to support the mission. Our Lord sees everything and will not be outdone in generosity.
We wanted to start the nightly activities with intensity, so, we decided to begin with a Holy Hour on Monday. You might ask "A Holy Hour for the Youth?" or "Do young people know what Eucharistic Adoration is? Some of them did, for others, it was the first time. Are young people capable of praying for an hour? They proved that they are. I am sure that the Lord spoke to more than one of them in their hearts and prepared the ground to receive the graces He had in store for them in the following activities.
We had a meeting on Thursday with the younger teenagers. After eating dinner together, they once again showed us their depth and capacity to reflect on the Faith. It was a well-mannered, enriching, and meaningful meeting thanks to their participation.
On Friday we had a meeting with the young people eighteen and older. Stella and Tiziano (a young married couple from Brignano) helped us in our reflection. They went in depth in how to see our lives in the light of the Gospel and take steps to live a serious Christian life.
Sunday, March 11th was the pastor’s birthday. After Mass, in which we Sisters were able to formally thank everyone who made this mission possible. We then had lunch all together. Thus, we could all celebrate the pastor’s birthday and end the mission. After lunch, we prepared for the last activity of the week called “Life on Fire.” We have to thank the moms that helped us out with this as well. Some young men from the Comunità Cenacolo led a festival with songs and testimonies, allowing us to see that true "Life [is] on Fire".
The young men from Comunità Cenacolo's sincerity and the shine of happiness in their eyes touched the hearts of the youth (and adults) present, making it an unforgettable experience. We thank the Lord for having permitted us to participate in this mission. We also thank the Lord for the work He does in every heart, and for having placed so much zeal and love in Fr. Giancarlo’s heart, helping him to carry out this activity in spite of all the difficulties. We know that what we have sown in these days of the mission will continue to grow and bear fruit in the life of each and every person at Izano-Salvirola.
