On Saturday, April 14th, the Community of Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother in Turin, Italy, organized a get-together for girls in order to help the girls go deeper into the mystery of the presence of our Risen Lord during this Easter season.
We began the day with a soccer and basketball game. After that, to raise our sugar level, we went to the parish kitchen to prepare something to eat: caramel popcorn balls. We split up the work, some popped the corn, others made the caramel, others the chocolate, etc. Then each one made their own popcorn caramel ball and we left them to cool down.
The Risen Lord had given us a beautiful day for our get-together, so we decided to eat our sandwiches outside on the basketball court. Since it had been raining the days before there were some “natural water holes” in the middle of the court. The girls, seeing the situation, asked us if they could get brooms and buckets to clear out the water. Once the permission was granted, they got right to work.
Once we had regained our strength, we began a game with different clues that led the girls to the empty tomb; there they found the message that the angel said to the women on the day of the Resurrection: “He is not here, he has risen!” They also found another surprise: an Easter egg that they unwrapped right away and ate as a snack, along with their caramel popcorn balls.
Later, they continued with the most important moment of the get-together: prayer time in the church. After greeting Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, we sang Him a song. Sr. Hope gave a few ideas on the Resurrection to help the girls pray. After a short moment of silence, we ended with a song. After leaving the church we gathered to reflect a bit upon the virtue of gratitude.
To end the get-together with a souvenir of the Resurrection, we made a luminous cross craft with colorful paints. On the base of the frame, the girls wrote, "Jesus has risen!" Inside our hearts, we respond, "Let us rise with Him."
