On Saturday, May 19th, we, the Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother in Turin, organized an encounter for mothers from the parish that we belong to. We started off the encounter with a reflection about the dignity and the role of women based on an article by a German Theologian, Jutta Burggraf. Burggraf’s article is based on the apostolic exhortation “Mulieris Dignitatem” by John Paul II.
At the beginning of the reflection there was a brief summary about the document written by St. John Paul II.This document touched upon the points of God’s plan for man and woman, Christ’s relationship with women, and the mission of women in the Church. After the reflection we had a small debate in which we were able to clear up doubts and comment about what we had heard. It was very helpful to talk about why there are no women priests in the Catholic Church and how this does not take away from a woman’s dignity.
The women present in the get-together were very participative. So much so that we hardly had time to do the craft that we had prepared. The craft consisted in cutting strips of blue and gold ribbon and stapling them together to make a chain that will decorate the streets for the procession of Corpus Christi in the parish in June.
The encounter was a good experience for all and we hope to see each other again!
