This school year’s first get together for girls in Alcalá de Henares took place on Saturday, November 3, in the convent of San Bernardo.
It revolved around holiness and the role models that the Church presents us to help reach it: the saints.
It started at 11:00 in the morning with the welcome and registration of the girls. After a few fun songs, there were some small games that the girls loved. Later they were divided into two teams. Each team was given the script of a play that, at the end of the get together, would have to represent. The parts were distributed, they searched for the costumes, and had time to rehearse. One play was about the history of the Scapular of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. The other was about the martyrdom of the holy children of Tlaxcala, the first martyrs of America.
Then we began arts and crafts. Each girl made a picture frame out of popsicle sticks for a saint picture. It was great to see how they gave free reign to their imagination decorating them.
After the craft, the girls went to the chapel where a sister gave them a few ideas for prayer, encouraging them to be holy.
As the growling stomachs warned that it was time to eat, at 2:00 p.m. we went to the dining room where we shared some sandwiches and, for dessert ... they had a small cooking workshop that consisted of making some delicious Rice Krispies Treats. When the workshop ended, we had a formation meeting about indulgences. Many of the girls decided to try harder to get souls out of purgatory after talking about this. Blessed be God!
And then ... off to play again. They did a game of trials in which they had to win pieces of a saint quote. Trial after trial, they were winning a bit more of Heaven.
At 5:00 p.m. the girls’ parents arrived to pick them up, meaning that it was time to show their artistic abilities. They put on the plays, previously prepared, for their parents. They honestly didn’t do that bad; the theater of Alcalá has a future.
After this, we said goodbye until the next get together that will take place, God willing, next month./p>
