News from Our Sponsored MGHM Families, December, 2018.

From MGHM we continue to help several families through sponsorships. We take canastas of food to them each month and give scholarships to their children. We are currently helping 122 families with a monthly canasta.

In August 2018 we started formation meetings about virtue and human values to sponsored families. The families arrive one hour before the distribution of the canastas for a group discussion about these subjects. The children and youth who attend have their own formation meeting and games as well.

The Sisters in Guayaquil have had the opportunity visit a very poor area in Guayaquil’s suburbs over the last few months, and GMHM found sponsors for 35 families in this area.

We would like to share part of a testimony of one of our sisters about this area of Guayaquil called Flor de Bastión: “These families live in the poorest conditions I have ever seen… Yesterday we were in a house that to go into we passed by a stream of sewage water from the neighboring homes. When it begins to rain, those putrid waters enter the house and rise up to 23 inches. That house’s floor was dirt and garbage. An old married couple lives in it. The man has illnesses that affect his breathing and the woman has very advanced osteoarthritis. While we were talking to them, we watched how rats scurried around in their home. What poverty, how little dignity for these the Lord’s beloved children.”
