MGHM’s principal mission in Ecuador is channeling financial and humane help for the development and formation projects in a missionary spirit of Christian evangelization. At Río Chico, this evangelization was hindered when the earthquake in 2016 destroyed the parish church. The inhabitants of the town together with the Servant Brothers of the Home of the Mother have been rebuilding it little by little with grants from Aid to the Church in Need.
In April 2017, the first phase was completed: the old church was demolished and the foundations for the new church were laid. Although the parishioners have been very generous in collaborating with the church’s reconstruction, alone they cannot manage to erect the church their ancestors built over 100 years ago with bamboo and wood.
Thanks to your collaboration, the most immediate needs are being covered to facilitate the church’s revival and with it the worthy celebration of the Eucharistic Mystery that nourishes and sanctifies the life of the Catholics of Río Chico.
“Here at Río Chico we are very thankful for all of the material as well as spiritual help. In October, we were overjoyed to celebrate Holy Mass again inside of the church for the celebrations of the parish’s patrons: St. Barbara and St. Laura Montoya. Before, we had been celebrating Mass nearby in the parish house (for 6 months). While we finish plastering the walls and installing the doors, the next urgent job is finishing the dome and the walls of the tower before the winter rains begin. Then we will have to put the floor down and paint, among other things. We thank you all for your help and ask you to continue to pray for us so that as the church is built, the faithful at Río Chico may become living stones, enthusiastic for their Faith” (Servant Brothers of the Home of the Mother).
We still need help with:
-Floor tiles (8,740 square feet surface area)
-Installation of electrical system and lighting
-Purchase of 140 pews
