Meditation 11 - The Annunciation: The Angel’s MessageMeditation 11

1. The Angel Before Mary —The angel that appears in the Incarnation is one of the greatest and most beautiful spirits that surrounds the Throne of God. —Contemplate him, so magnificent, so sublime… so radiant and captivating that many of us would have believed him to be God Himself. — Consider the importance of the messagethat he brings to Mary, and the dignity thereof… so important that the Lord does not entrust it to man as He had done on other occasionsin which Moses, Elijah, Elisha, the prophets and patriarchs, etc., served as His messengers. However, He sends an angel to the Most Blessed Virgin, and one of the most elevated amongst them. —Thus it was fitting that She, who was more than angel due to Her original purity, was to be visited by an angel of the Lord. — And what a visit! —The Angel enters into Mary’s room and respectfully bows before Her — he who had never laid prostrate before anyone except before the Throne of Godnow lays prostrate at Mary’s feet. —What did the angel see in Her?—He was accustomed to seeing the wonders of Heaven… what wonder could he see on earth? And yet, gazing upon Mary, he is astonished, filled with awe and admiration. He had never seen anything apart from the beauty and exquisiteness of God, never had he seen, not even in Heaven, that could compare to that hidden Virgin in Her retreat in Nazareth.—And the world did not know Her… because to know Her, one must gaze upon Her with angelic eyes, not with earthly eyes.

2. The Greeting —“Hail Mary, full of grace!”… “The Lord is with thee, and blessed art thou amongst women.”—It is the fruit of admiration… it is an explosion of enthusiasm: each phrase expresses a confession of affection and love.—How great was the angel’s love for Mary!  It is as if he cannot manage to conclude his greeting of praise.—These words upon the lips of a human would have seemed to be foolish flattery and by all means a passionate exaggeration: but what can be said about the words of an angel incapable of flattery, incapable of lying and exaggerating?—What, then, is Mary like?

3. The Mission —The angel presents his objective: the Conception and Birth of a Son who is to be the Messiah.— He asks Mary for Her consent.—All of creation, men, angels… God Himself speaks now through the angel’s lips.—Eagerly, impatiently, everyone awaits Mary’s response…the sublime and magnificent moment… Redemption, the salvation of all humanity, hangs upon this one word.— The angel depicts the image of the Messiah… He will be called Jesus… He will be the Holy of Holies… He will be the Son of the Most High, and at the same time, the Son of Mary.—Mary will truly be the Mother of God! For the first time, in this scene the delectable names of Jesus and Mary are heard. — She,until now, has been the humble and hiddenhandmaid of Nazareth. — From this moment on, She will be Mary, the Mother of Jesus. All of humanity’s faith, and all its desires and hopes, are contained in the angel’s message; as well as all the greatness and all the abundance of graces that were bestowed upon Mary from Her Immaculate Conception. — The angel’s message will be eternally remembered.

4. Your Presence Before Mary —Do you present yourself to Her with this enthusiasm, fervor and affection, as the angel did?  Do you know how to ponder over, appreciate, and honor your Mother as he did? — The angel only did so once… but you can speak with Mary often. — Do you do so in this way, constantly living in Her presence… doing everything with Her and for Her? — Think about the messages that God sends to you through His angels… through your Guardian Angel… your superiors… the Blessed Virgin… and sometimes, He Himself… How do you receive these inspirations, callings, and movements in your heart?

Ask God for the eyes of an angel so as to rightly know and ponder over your Mother… to fall madly in love with Her… to live with Her always. — Ask Her to help you desire to collaborate with grace, receiving these inspirations with a spirit of faith,no matter where they come from, and striving to follow them all. — Invoke the angel of the Annunciation and your Guardian Angel.

Our sisters at Mitchelstown, Ireland, granted an interview to Radio Maria Ireland in Dublin on February 6, 2019. They spoke about the Home of the Mother and our missions in the Church, but they spoke most of all about Sr. Clare Crockett, surely the most famous Irish nun in the world.
