Weekly meetings for women in Lumezzane (Italy), May of 2018.

We all know that women look for role models to whom they can look to and learn how to be a real women. That is why we decided to offer weekly meetings for women during the month of May.

During these meetings we invited different people to talk about different topics that affect a woman’s life and at the same time offer role models of holy women who a woman can try and imitate.

We named our weekly meetings “Real Women”. The first meeting we had was about St. Gianna Beretta Molla. The topic was “A Mother until the end” and Antonella Cereda, a friend of the Beretta Molla Family, came and talked to us about this saint who knew how to live her vocation as a spouse and mother in a very natural way, and when it was necessary she lived this vocation to the point of heroism by saving her child’s life instead of her own. We learned from her example that holiness is not just for priests and religious but rather that every Christian is called to holiness and perfection in love. There was something in particular that really impressed the women and it was what she Gianna wrote to her husband: “Tell me Pietro, what I can do to make you happy.” She is truly an example of a woman that is called to forget herself and to give of herself to an even greater love.

For our second meeting we invited a wife and mother of 7 children, Maria Grazia. She talked to us about “Mary, our model as a spouse and mother”. She shared with us the relationship that she has with our Blessed Mother and how she learns from our Lady and how she lives with our Lady. She also spoke about the place that prayer must have in family life and how she was able to draw close to our Blessed Mother.

Our third meeting was about “St. Josephina Bahkita, a fortunate woman”. For this meeting we had a Canossian sister, Madre Daniela, come and talk to us about this woman who knew how to live loving and forgiving throughout her whole life.

In the fourth meeting we invited members from the movement Ecclesial Carmelitana to talk to us about St. Therese of Lisieux’s parents. The meeting was separated into three different parts: A biographical introduction, the testimony of how the Martin family had been a witness and example in their lives, and at the end there was a slideshow of the Liseux family.

Our third meeting was about “St. Josephina Bahkita, a fortunate woman”. For this meeting we had a Canossian sister, Madre Daniela, come and talk to us about this woman who knew how to live loving and forgiving throughout her whole life.

For the last encounter we wanted to invite mothers who could come and talk about how to accompany our children and love each one how they are. We invited Guiliana who talked to us about how she was able to accompany her child who is now a novice in the Passionist community.

As a conclusion to our meetings we can say that the mothers who came were very happy with the testimonies that they heard and that it had been a big help for them to renew their strength in loving the Lord and their families and everyone they have around them. These meetings also helped them realize that their vocation as mothers is truly a calling to holiness.
