On July 16th, 2018, the Home of the Mother had the great grace of celebrating in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid) the entrance into the novitiate of 12 candidates as Servant Sisters and 3 candidates as Servant Brothers.
Many people started to arrive at the Dominican Convent in Loeches on the 16th to have lunch together before heading out for the much-awaited ceremony. The Mass took place in the convent of the Bernardas in Alcalá de Henares and was celebrated by the Bishop of the Diocese Juan Antonio Reig Pla. There were about 300 people at the entrance, many being family and friends of the new novices.
Mass began at 5:00 PM and in the first part of the celebration the Bishop clothed the new novices with their habits and the scapulars of our Lady of Mt. Carmel and gave the new Servant Brothers their cassocks. Later in his homily, the Bishop exhorted the novices to enter into this period of solitude and silence with much enthusiasm. “God is alive and He is the one who calls, and the time of silence and solitude in this period of formation is a good preparation to be able to carry out in your lives the mission that the Lord has given to you. This is a step that no one would dare to take if we were not impulsed to do so by the grace of God and assisted by the maternal care of our Blessed Mother.”
When the Eucharist ended and filled with joy and gratitude for the vocations of our new brothers and sisters, we returned to the convent in Loeches to have a snack. The joy of the new novices was obvious to all who could see them, a pure joy that only comes from a generous self-giving to the Lord. After everyone ate, we had time to talk and share our experiences from the day and what we had thought about the ceremony. We finished the evening by singing the Salve Regina to our Blessed Mother and asking Her to be the guarantee of the fidelity of all consecrated souls, especially the Servant Brothers and Sisters.
