Family meeetings in Tampa, Florida, October 2018

“This is the Home. Right here, what we live in our homes and in our daily lives.” These are the words expressed by Kevin Hernandez, member of the Home of the Mother. Kevin and his wife, Cheryl Hernandez, provide their home in Dade City, FL for the formation meetings of the Home of the Mother. Perhaps these meetings, which take place approximately every two months throughout the school year, are a direct fruit of their own experience in the Home and of Our Blessed Mother’s love. Our Lord said, “Freely you have received, freely give” (Mt. 10:8).

Families from all over the state of Florida flock to these meetings with the desire to grow in their faith, to learn how to pray, and to live the same virtues that were lived within the Home of Nazareth. The event kicks off with a potluck meal. Afterwards, the Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother attend to the spiritual needs of the whole family, giving separate formation meetings to the adults, youth, and children.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that, within our society, the family and the youth are under attack. The task at hand is far from easy. Yet, we know that in end Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart will triumph. And this is our hope. “These are exciting times,” said one of the Servant Sisters, “these are exciting times because it is precisely now that we, as Catholics, must proclaim the Truth with love, especially to the youth of today.”

The adult formation meeting was filled with references to a book called The Forge of Men by Father Tomás Morales, a Jesuit priest who founded the Secular Institutes of the Crusaders of Mary, and whose spirituality had no little influence on Father Rafael Alonso, founder of the Home of the Mother. When you ask young people for more, they give more… Yet, today and within our families, it often seems that when it comes to faith we ask for too little (cf. The Forge of Men). The Servant Sisters continued to encourage the lay members of the Home to examine themselves on how they are living out the third mission of the Home, the conquest of the youth for Jesus Christ. Certainly, these are not times to shy away from the battle. An attitude of complacency or mediocrity would be a death sentence in the making.

When the formation meetings of the adults, youth, and children concluded the entire family came together again to pray the Rosary. It is to Her, Mother of all humanity and Mother of the youth, that we entrust our lives. We pray that she may give us an ardent zeal to conquer the youth for Jesus Christ and that we may be the leaven and witness of the Truth.
